Sacred Spaces

Sunday, February 17, 2008
St. Luke's Episcopal Church
San Francisco

The title, Sacred Spaces, alludes to the fact that most of the works on the program were conceived for performance in specific cathedrals and churches. It is interesting to learn that of the sacred music being produced today, young English composers are at the musical leading edge, producing music for the staid Anglican Church that is very modern and, in many ways, risky. The two American works stand in marked contrast to each other, as well as to the British works.
